burned black 05:29
it's a new land that you're seeing she got so shy human being a desert handshake on a clear day a beaten voyage entering the bay tell me if you think this is real i just want to know how it feels to be on in this world and beyond i remember happy hauntings they don't leave me like i leave you a baker's dozen doesn't add up to the years that i have burned black so tell me if you think this is real i just want to know how it feels to be on in this world and beyond i thought i had it all so figured out i thought i'd never wash away.

these empty roads follow far flung posts to the sea in the distance up in a corner looking back at me is a shape i know with an ebb and flow like the cobbler and it is killing me like it comforts you that we are lonely is there love in your heart? lay my head on a beasdale beam i never listen to the tired cars heaving up and down i'm going to let this land offer up a hand in the meantime is there love in your heart? was it there from the start? i don't need to know all the time i can see what this is doing to me love your faults was your weights in the sea standing tall are the acres that i never saw from the riverbed to the mermaid's head i never noticed but the books will tell of the men who fell in our honour is there love in your heart? was it there from the start? you will be my lantern through the night i can see a dozen steps in front of me cross your hands together raise your arms and you will see that we won't live forever we will blow in the trees we won't live forever we are honey to the bees.

her majesty 03:34
jump in the pool when it's hot untie your hair from the knot that keeps all your thoughts inside shepherds will tend to their flocks using the sun as their clocks telling them when to leave something so true to believe lanterns that light up the dark and pictures of old cutty sark lie on the stovetop now you're taking the easy way out what are you talking about? this is harder than you know when there's no place else to go if you shout too loud no-one will hear you no one will come no-one will hear you so don't wear your shoes in the flat please leave them out on the mat where they can do no harm it's all superficial you see why this means nothing to me the sweat from your brow can tell even her majesty fell.

the kindling sings it sings a lonely song it warms my arms and sends a signal to the others further down the river bend i smell the smoke i smell the sweet sweet smoke it stings my eyes arrests and pacifies forever carving dancing on a grave i will be the first to know my view can stretch for miles over these landlocked lines there's treasure in the trees for me and everyone who knows me but everything is turning sour and gaining on me every hour there is fire in the lookout tower these sun starved bugs are hiding in the sand in shallow holes that i can't fit my hand the metaphor keeps crawling out my ears until i sleep the kindling sings to me an endless verse a smoking elegy that disappears like it was never said oh i will be the first to know my view can stretch for miles over these landlocked lines there's treasure in the trees for me and everyone who knows me but everything is turning sour and gaining on me every hour there is fire in the lookout tower so throw me up some old old rope something to hold on and hope there is fire in the lookout tower.

happiness 04:13
i know what i need i know what i want but i can't get through to you i don't know too may people that i would trust with the sun they will drop it in the dark i don't know too many people that can light up my room they will drop it in the dark.

that shade of grey on somebody else looks like silver to me through tired eyes and spectacled skin cast your long gaze through the tall trees the dusty brown on the far end of town in the sun will glimmer in gold i do want you to explain yourself how this can be that you're still here when the lights go down on everybody else in here san cristobal and the sunflower trees a forest built from the ground this canopy was a gift from me to protect you from tumbling down so speak to me in a foreign tongue light a a match and watch it all burn i do want you to explain yourself how it can be that you're still here when the lights go down on everybody else in here.

landings 02:56
first i saw amusements then i saw the pier this empty wooden boardwalk at any time of year echoes ghosts of former glorious pursuits a whole other world is waiting across there then i saw my demons heading for the shore they were sailing in a ship they were followed by some more they're coming for you now with a cargo of your fears a whole other world is waiting across there free from the guilt a summer surrender there is no time to mend her when the demons landed they handed me a card black ink on paper from the captain's hand stinging like a hornet hidden in the sand a whole other world is waiting across there free from the guilt a summer surrender there is no time to mend her.

wild spaces 03:43
you had a job but you didn't want it and you had the keys but you could you couldn't cut it and you had a ride but you wouldn't take it and you wrote a song but you wouldn't sing it one speed bicycle cross this landscape circumnavigate keep a clean slate you search for meaning never lose that feeling you say you're running from the real world in inverted commas you sail along with the wind at your back and you know for sure that you'll never come back one speed bicycle cross this landscape circumnavigate keep a clean slate you search for meaning never lose that feeling you say you're running from the real world whatever that is.

summer weekends get so crowded that we laugh we're talking shoulder to shoulder knee deep watch the water fight take it out again reclaim the place for our legs to wander through this salty port is not built for these crowds to see this was the place for you and me now it's getting old but i'll come again even if just to pretend there's stoics in the sand there's saltwater in my hair there are ghosts in my bed so bury my head and my body try to sleep when the crowds go home we will open our eyes like secret agents and spies from another town i'll come again even though vultures descend on stoics in the sand and with all that we have when the crowds go home we laugh.
